Eyelash Extensions Aftercare: What to Do (First 48 Hours) in Freeport NY

The biggest rule of eyelash extensions aftercare is simple: keep them dry and away from steam, oil, and heavy sweat for the first 24 to 48 hours, because that’s when the adhesive is finishing its set. I’m big on protecting results, the same way our facial clients love leaving with skin that looks “firm, clear, and glowing.” Your lashes deserve that same level of care, especially here in Freeport where humidity and salt air can sneak up on you.

Quick reminder: If you’re heading down the Nautical Mile or out on the water near Woodcleft Canal, plan your lashes like you plan your hair, no steam and no splash for 48 hours.

The first 24 to 48 hours: keep lash adhesive stable

Right after your full set, your job is to protect the bond. I do a lot of lash sets for people in Downtown Freeport who are in and out, commuting, working, and trying to look put together without extra makeup. This part is what keeps your set looking even instead of “shedding early.”

Do this right away

  • Keep lashes dry: no shower spray on the face, no rinsing, no crying if you can help it. If you have to shower, face away from the water.
  • Skip steam and heat: avoid saunas, steam rooms, and hot yoga. Steam can soften the bond before it fully sets.
  • Sleep smart: try to sleep on your back. Side sleeping tends to crush one eye more, and you’ll see it in the morning.
  • Hands off: don’t pull, twist, or “test” them. If something feels pokey, let me know.

Avoid for 48 hours: oil-based makeup remover, cleansing balms, waterproof mascara, and lash curlers. Oils break down the bond, and curlers can snap natural lashes with extensions attached.

If you’re a boater, this matters even more. Salt spray and wind off the water can make you want to rub your eyes. Don’t. Blink, pat around the eye with a clean tissue, and save the rinse routine until you’re past that initial set window.

Days 3 to 7: keep them clean without losing lashes

Once you’re past the first 48 hours, the goal switches from “protect the bond” to “keep the lash line clean.” A lot of people think extensions mean you can skip cleansing. That’s usually when you get irritation, buildup, and lashes that start sticking together.

If you work out or commute on the LIRR

Sweat happens, especially with coastal Long Island humidity in summer and those sticky early fall days. If you sweat, gently rinse your face with cool water, keep pressure low around the eyes, then pat dry. No rubbing. If you’ve got a fan in the car or at home, a quick air-dry helps too.

If you’re on the Nautical Mile or out by Woodcleft Canal

Salt air and wind can make lashes feel dry. Bring a clean spoolie in your bag, brush gently when you’re back on land, and do a light fresh-water rinse when you get home. Then pat dry and brush again. That little routine saves a lot of “why are my lashes clumping?” frustration.

My simple lash routine: brush daily, cleanse 2 times a week

You don’t need a complicated shelf of products for aftercare for eyelash extensions. You need consistency and the right texture. Here’s what I recommend in most cases.

Brushing (morning and night)

Use a clean spoolie. Brush gently from mid-lash to tips first, then lightly at the base. If you see a lash that’s twisted, don’t pull it. Brush it into place and text or call me if it’s still poking.

Cleansing (2 times weekly, more if you wear makeup)

A lash-safe foaming cleanser is ideal. A diluted micellar solution can work too, as long as it’s oil-free. Use your fingertips or a super-soft brush, keep pressure light, rinse with cool water, then pat dry. This is how to clean eyelash extensions without messing up retention.

Makeup rule that saves lashes: Keep eyeliner off the waterline and skip anything creamy or oily around the lash base. Oil migrates, even if you only used it on your lids.

And just so you know, if you found me searching “eyebrow threading near me, ” “waxing near me, ” or “brazilian waxing near me, ” you’re in the right place. A lot of our regulars bundle services. Lashes are a great add-on when you want to stay low-maintenance for a few weeks.

When a fill is due (and when to message me sooner)

Most people do best on a 2 to 3 week fill schedule. That timing keeps your set looking even without stressing your natural lashes. I also price and time our Deluxe Eyelash Extensions as a full set, 120 minutes for $100, because I’d rather take the time and do it clean than rush you out the door.

Message me if you notice any of these

  • A lash feels like it’s poking or scratching (usually one extension twisted or grown out)
  • Bunching or sticking that doesn’t brush out
  • A cluster of lashes shedding at once (it can happen if they got wet too soon)
  • Redness or irritation that doesn’t calm down quickly

“I have been going to wax flower spa for many years. I always get my eyebrows threaded and my lash extensions here. The service is impeccable my eyebrows always come out so nice and my lashes last a long time.”

I’m right on South Main Street in Downtown Freeport, and I see a lot of people coming in from Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, Baldwin, Oceanside, and Lindenhurst because it’s an easy stop for beauty maintenance.

If you’re planning a beach week, a boat day, or you just want to cut your morning routine down, you’ll probably like this too: eyelash extensions that save time and stay beach-ready.
